Week 6. A bits and bobs week.

Saturday 7th September 2013.

We did return - to The Lochleven Seafood Cafe and Shop - this morning, the shop was selling lots of lovely fish and seafood (we bought a fresh crab) but strangely they seemed to specialize in Spanish cuisine equipment, still it gave us the opportunity to replenish our paella supplies.

Sunday 8th September 2013

Moving day today back further south to Glasgow. We caused great discussion on the site when we mentioned we were traveling back to Glasgow via the A82 that runs alongside Loch Lomond, there was a sharp intake of breath - ooh, we would never go that way the road is so narrow and the traffic horrendous particularly with artic's and coaches, well that was almost a challenge, Loch Lomond it is, until another camper, a Glasgow resident said he would not drive that way with a tow, particularly with all the road works and bridge replacements going on - we went another way. To be fair, the alternative route, the A84 via Callander and Sterling made for a much prettier journey and the better roads helped compensate for the longer distance. In fact when we return that way in a couple of weeks that's the route we will take.

We were heading to Strathclyde Country Park Caravan Club just for one night as we make our way south for me to attend a meeting in Colchester, Essex and to meet up with Sue’s brother and sister-in-law who will be joining us for a couple of weeks for their first visit to Scotland.

We have stayed on seven Caravan Club sites since we set out on 30th July for this trip to Scotland and all have been to the usual high standard one comes to expect from both the Caravan Club and the Camping and Caravan Club but the site to the south west of Glasgow was probably the best. It is difficult to quantify quite why, the facilities were kept to the same high standard as the others as were the grounds, etc., etc., and although it was unusual in being in the centre of a country park, where there was so much to see and do, and close(ish) to the city centre, the others were generally in stunningly beautiful areas with no less things to see and do. This was, I think, down to the staff, not that they were any better than those elsewhere, they just had an air of wanting to be there, happy to be there (three wardens from other sites complained about their pay and conditions) and wanting visitors to be the same. Of course, it could be they were pleased that we had just spent over 40 quid buying all their remaining stock of christmas cards.

Talking of Christmas, a couple of days ago we saw our first Christmas goods for sale in a supermarket - mince pies, then of course the cards, mentioned above, and while having a mooch around a garden centre we saw a huge christmas display was almost ready to go live. It’s three months and two weeks and three days to Christmas for goodness sake!!!!!!!!!

Monday 9th September 2013

Moving again today, that's two days in a row, blimey, I can't remember the last time that happened, still it will get us back to Lancashire so that we can prepare not only for our guests next week but for our foray into Europe next month. We will (hopefully) be taking less clutter with us than we did last time. I also have to pop back to Essex to attend a meeting and know from long experience that I can get to Colchester from here, where we used to live in a fairly relaxed four and a half hours.

Tuesday 10th September 2013

Sue wants to get out and about during the two days I’m away so we thought she could rent a small car which would not be much dearer than taxis. Unfortunately they all seemed to want photo driving licence (both parts) plus a passport plus two other forms of ID less than three months old with an address - well thats not going to happen. We hit the road this afternoon and eventually found one, a name you would all recognise, not a backstreet cowboy, that would take a photo driving licence only and run a computer credit check, which he did in around 30 seconds. Why couldn’t they all be so easy??

Friday 13th September 2013

Well Sue has picked up and returned the car hired to run around in during the two days I was running down to  Colchester for my meeting and back. I think she has spent a lot of time in the container as a lot of kit that we had been unable to find is found and when you open those big metal doors the contents no longer threaten to bury you in an avalanche of furniture.

I've got so far behind with the blog that Week 7 is already here
