Site 68 - La Ferme des Aulnes.

This was the one French site who answered our question “do you accept twin axle caravans?” in the positive so whatever we were going there. We arrived in pouring rain and as stated in the blog section drive in the site gateway.

The gateway was quite something, very tall and just a couple of inches wider than the caravan, still that was it till we left on Friday wasn’t it? Like buggery it was, after booking in the receptionist with a cheery “follow me” jumped into a golf cart and did a circuit of the VERY tight site and went then drove out of those VERY tight gates but worst of all after going through the gates she turned sharp left, fine for a golf buggy, damn difficult for a rig 41 feet long when the turn is a damn sight shorter than that and those bloody gates are stopping you turn and a ditch is preventing you continuing forward. However for most vans there would be no problem. The pitches were of a reasonable size with a grass area for the van and a hard area for the car in the very wet conditions we put the van on the hardstanding as did all the motor homers which made up the majority of the visitors.

The toilets and showers were clean and modern, some with toilet seats all with paper but not all with hand washing facilities. Like many in France they were unisex

We had wanted to try the restaurant but unfortunately it was closed on Thursdays when we wanted to use it.

The heated pool looked inviting but when you have a body like mine the wearing of“budgie smugglers” as required under the camp rules may cause hysteria and fainting in women and those of a delicate constitution.

There is a small shop on site selling basic provisions, beer, wine etc., and fresh bread etc can be ordered (before 6:00pm) for collection after 08:15am next morning.

Although this is an ideal transit stop towards or away from Calais or Dunkirk there is plenty to see and do in the area to warrant a longer stay.

During our three night stay the staff were very helpful attentive and polite. Free internet was advertised but we were, for some reason unable to connect, but the staff allowed us to use a computer in reception.
